Voyage De La Vie

Simply magnificent.
My two words for what i saw at RWS Festive Grand Theatre.

Voyage de la Vie, a show that came to Singapore about a couple of years ago, and on Thursday evening, I have seen one of their last few shows in Singapore. Some people may say it was disappointing but I'll say, they are all wrong. I enjoyed myself thoroughly.

They started off singing and dancing like how Glee does it, then the entire story line of a guy in the busy, working reality goes on a journey to find happiness - which is portrayed into a small red lighted ball, and the emphasis on the journey instead of the destination. What really amazes me is the amount of enthusiasm they put in everything they do on stage. The contortionists, despite the difficult moves of pushing limits and twisting possibly every joints to reach places most of us can never reach, manage to keep their smile constant, charming the audiences. The many performers who defy gravity and took up the high elements of the show, flipping, turning and twisting in mid air, and the best part? -wait for it- , they do the stunts all without any safety harness. I remember specifically that there is an act whereby performers with Hawaiian outfits doing gymnastics on the stage, flipping and tumbling on the trampoline. There was a girl, in a long pink flowy skirt, doing a forward flip and did at least 3 turns in mid-air, allowing the skirt to spin like a blossoming flower. This definitely left me with my mouth open for a good 10 seconds as I thought it was near impossible to even perform in a skirt. And then they have those who doesn't defy gravity, performing his shooting skill. No, not an air rifle, but a cross-bow. With that kind of accuracy and ease, it will let you and possibly your fellow army mates underestimate the standard of marksman back in camp. Then, ending with a collaboration of the entire crews performing and singing. Impressive.

On occasions, you find it awkward that certain things happen - like when the person suddenly sings after a high-risk performance. Then this is enhanced with the wonderful stage-play and coordination by the stage crews that are hidden within the performers, making things seem like they magically appear.

All in all, it is an evening that I will definitely remember for a long time because of the daring, enthusiastic, beautifully artistic performances i was given a chance to watch. I often tell friends how i would have peed in my pants if i was even making my way up to the ceiling, not to mention doing a back flip. Sunday is probably the very last show, and if you guys are interested and have nothing to do, please, go and have yourself entertained by very good performers.

Lastly, thanks to Weetz who invited us. (:
